King Kong Is Heading To Broadway

Broadway musicals making the jump to the big screen is nothing new, with the likes of Les Miserables, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, and Chicago all gracing the silver screen over the years. What you may not be aware of is the number of movies that have been turned into musicals. Rocky, School of Rock, Kinky Boots, Aladdin, and, of course, The Lion King (amongst many, many others) have all graced the stages of Broadway. Now, something big is heading to The Great White Way, with the announcement of the King Kong musical. This adaption, which first ran in Australia in 2013, retells the tale of the 1933 classic, with a massive puppet of the Eight Wonder of the World needing 35 puppeteers to operate it.

While musicals may not be your cup of tea, you can’t deny that the prospect of seeing one of Cinema’s most iconic creatures brought to life on the stage is an exciting one. Just look at this video from the original run in Melbourne to see what the show has in store for you.

King Kong will open in late 2018 at the Shubert Organization’s Broadway Theatre.
